Rest Area East of Pagosa Springs

These pictures are pretty dark, but I've never had much luck with late-day photography. Not bad for a disposable camera. There were really excellent views, especially with all the fall color.
A lot of people took advantage of this stopping place, especially the ones who wanted to give their brakes a rest. We left when the three vans full of high school kids arrived.

Campground North of Pagosa Springs

A very nice, uncrowded spot just north of Pagosa Springs. Near a place called Coyote Hill. This is national forest land. There were hardly any people or cars here. That may have something to do with the lateness in the year (it was October) or it may have something to do with the fact that there were coyotes ALL OVER THE PLACE.
They yipped and whined all night long, and terrorized the dogs (and us) so much that we brought the dogs inside the tent.

Piedra River Road

Another really nice, uncrowded spot. There are hot springs along the river (far below the road) which are unadvertised. We saw only a few people here. Most of them were turkey hunters, who didn't appear to be having much luck.
The turkeys didn't seem to mind our presence though. There are eight or ten of them in this last Piedra Road picture. This was a really nice spot for camping. Just grass and really tall pine trees. It felt like camping in a groomed city park.
