North of Durango

This was a really beautiful drive. Lots of great fall colors. Did I mention the colors? It really was quite breathtaking. I had remembered it being breathtaking because the road was so high and narrow, but that's another story. What can I say? Really fantastic views. I promise to work a better narrative into these pictures at some point. For now, please bear with me. Really amazing stuff. Wow.

South of Silverton

Great views of the San Juans. We were pretty high at this point, but the weather was favorable. There was snow on the mountains and in the air, but not the roads. Perfect.
More of the same. These views are to the east of the road, driving north from Durango to Silverton.

East of Gunnison, Monarch Pass

The dogs get used to traveling after a while. Sometimes, they lie in back.. More often than not though, they stand in the back and pant. The area east of Gunnison is pretty flat, so we focused out artisic efforts inside the car.
Farther east we crossed Monarch pass, which was pretty spectacular. There was a big thick cloud sitting in the valley on the other side. We could see both above and below it as we crested the pass. Fantastic.
